Now that holiday season is here many people are shipping gifts all over the us and the world. Many americans are shipping gifts to Iraq and to soldiers around the world. I have been shipping items for more than 20 years mostly to businesses ,however I have alot of experience in this are and can offer some good information to my readers.

1-USPS The good old post office. They have been raising their rates like crazy the past few years however there are some good values on Priority Mail flat rate box. If you can fit your gifts in a box in the following sizes:
11″ x 8.5″ x 5.5″ and 13.625″ x 11.875″ x 3.375. There is no weight limit on these boxes which cost $8.95 to ship on what basically is a 2 day service to most of the US. It could take as much as three days. They also deliver Sat at no additional charge. You can get the prepaid boxes at the post office of from www.usps.com website. If you ship 2 day service from UPS it is alot more. This is the best value from the USPS. Priority shipping might be a good value on some other items as well. Also for Alaska and hawaii Priority is great. The post office is the bets way to ship to soldiers around the world. Gte the packages there early!

2- UPS. United Parcel has been jacking up rates like crazy the past few years. They charge additional fees per package when you ship to a residence. Usually $1.50 per box addtl. If you ship to a business there is no extra charge. Two day UPS service is really expensive and I don’t suggest it. Three day UPS is approx double the rate as normal ground. You can ship via UPS at Office Depot, Staples, Office Max and thousands of UPS stores. They charge extra for Sat delivery. Service is generally good.

3- Fedex -There are two services. The air division and the FEDEX home division for ground packages. I do not recommend FEDEX home. Use UPS or the post office. I don’t like the reliability of the delivery of Fedex Home. On the air side FEDEX has great service but is quite pricey. Fedex also charges additional for Sat delivery.

These are the major services and options. The post office has the last deliveries before the holidays for those last minute shipments. Pack your items securely. Do not use brown paper wrapping with an address on it. Newspaper makes great packing and stuffing. I save those pesky peanuts from old shipments to me for reuse as well.
